How safe is annilingus or prostate massage?

Hi,

This is my first post and let me say that it is great to have qualified health professionals on this board.

I've been reading for a while the posts here and the two topics above seem to come up once in a while.

I would like to know what are the dangers of annilingus either in giving or receiving it. Also how safe is a prostate massage? I've seen some SP's here that seem to offer this.

While it is theoretically possible to transmit STI if the massager had blood, semen or vaginal fluids on their finger and then they put it into your anus, we do not see sexually transmitted infections (STI) passed from prostate massage.

Wearing gloves would remove any risk. If gloves are not worn make sure that there is no broken skin and hands are washed (the alcohol hand wash works well).

The main danger from prostate massage would be physical damage. For example if someone inserted a large dildo in your anus there could be tearing. To reduce risk of injury when inserting something into your anus, start slowly, use lots of lubrication and start with something small e.g. finger.
