If you are receiving a rim job the greatest concern would be if the person had herpes (cold sore) on the mouth. This could pass to the anus. It would also be theoretically possible to pass syphilis, but we have not seen this happen before and is not the best way for syphilis to transmit.

I have not been able to find any research articles that just looked at rimming as a risk factor for HIV transmission. We believe your risk to HIV would be very low. I have provided a section of an article that was provided by the CDC in 2000 about the risk of rimming.

Theoretical:
Anilingus carries a theoretical risk of transmission for the insertive partner (the person who is licking or sucking the anus) if there is exposure to infected blood, either through bloody fecal matter (bodily waste) or cuts/sores in the anal area. Anilingus carries a theoretical risk to the receptive partner (the person who is being licked/sucked) if infected blood in saliva comes in contact with anal/rectal lining.

Documented:
There has been one published case of HIV transmission associated with oral-anal sexual contact.”


What are the health risks for the rimmer?

The herpes and syphilis risk would be the same as if you were on the receiving end of a rim job (see above).

Your risk from getting HIV would also be very low.

Your biggest concern would be from infectious diseases that are spread by getting feces (shit) in your mouth. Some common names are hepatitis A, Giardia, shigella etc…

We would recommend getting the hepatitis A vaccine if you like to engage in rimming and if you want to reduce risk further you can use a barrier such as a dental dam, plastic food wrap or a condom cut open.

You are absolutely correct, it is.

The definition of a parasite is:

“Organisms that live on or in a different species.”

There are a large number of parasites that are spread by getting feces (shit) in your mouth. Intestinal worms are a good example.

I did not list all the infections as approximately 80% of all infectious diseases are spread by the fecal-oral route (getting shit in your mouth). So as you can imagine the list is very long.
